Columbus police officer shot serving warrant

A Columbus police officer was shot tonight while serving an arrest warrant. 

According to Capt. Todd Thalken with the Columbus Police Department, two officers were serving a warrant near 15th Street and 34th Avenue when a man with a rifle confronted them. He said the man shot one of the officers twice. The officers returned fire and shot the man.

The officer was later identified as Brad Wangler and the suspect was later identified as Jorge Robledo.Both were taken to Nebraska Medicine. Wangler is in serious condition and Robledo is in critical condition. 

"The citizens of Columbus are praying for the officer and his entire family. This man represents the very best of our community and put his life on the line tonight so that we can live safely in the town we love. The Columbus Police Department is a family and right now this crew of dedicated of public servants and community members is benefiting from an outpouring of unconditional support that is amazing," Columbus Mayor Jim Buckley said.
