3 News Now has learned a motorcyclist has died in a fiery crash in Omaha. He is 32-year-old Thomas Coffman.

Omaha police officers and firefighters responded to a crash near 72nd and Hickory involving an SUV and a motorcycle around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

Police say Coffman died at Nebraska Medicine when crews took him from the crash scene.

Witnesses told investigators he was speeding on his motorbike and tried to brake ahead of stopped traffic.

At one point, Coffman became separated from his motorcycle, and slid under a Toyota 4 Runner waiting in stopped traffic.

As the bike slid, the gas tank separated causing a massive fuel spill and fire.

Police say the other driver walked away with no injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
