Methodist Physicians Clinic wants you to check your bra drawer for gently used or new bras you might be willing to give up. You can certainly buy new ones to donate too.

This is the second year for their Bra Drive to benefit the Open Door Mission's Lydia House. The donation is needed. Candace Gregory is the President/CEO of the shelter. She says undergarments are one of the most needed but least donated items.

Sherry Brown has stayed at the Lydia House since she says she escaped an abusive relationship. She packed one bag and got out of the house. "I don't even know why I took time to fill up one bag, I just called a ride, I need out of here, I'm done." That was months ago.
Some of the women who stay at the Lydia House only have the clothes on their back which may or may not include undergarments.
Dr. Tifany Somer-Shely who started the Methodist Bra Drive chose to host this donation during October because it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She hopes the drive spurs conversation, "In talking about the bra donation that also gets us talking about yearly mammograms and making sure you're getting breast cancer screenings on a regular basis."
She also says, "having properly fitted undergarments really does increase self-worth, you just feel better about yourself, better self-confidence."
Gregory echoes that when talking about the women at the shelter, "as they get healthier, they realize, I need to be wearing undergarments to go to a job interview, I need to be wearing undergarments to go into public."
Sherry Brown wanted people to know the gifts are, "very appreciated, every donation here is appreciated."
