One person has died following an early morning crash in Cass County.
It happened near the I-80/Highway 63 exit when a vehicle was driving the wrong way and crashed into another car, according to authorities. The Nebraska State Patrol says they were called around 2am Monday for a vehicle going eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 near Waverly. The crash happened minutes later near the Greenwood exit. The crash was almost head-on, and then the vehicles collided with another car.
Ashley Chinana, 23, of Niobara was identified as the driver going the wrong way and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four other people from two other vehicles were taken to the hospitals.
"We have no information right now about if there's any impairment on part of the driver, or if the driver was confused, or any type of mental stress that will hopefully come out as we get more information on the investigation and get toxicology reports back," said NSP Captain Lance Rogers.
An earlier report stated two people had died, that has been corrected.
