Creighton takes down Providence, will face Xavier in BIG EAST semifinals

Posted

Creighton had struggled down the stretch of the regular season without the help of Maurice Watson Jr., but bounced back in a big way with a 70-58 win over No. 3 seeded Providence.

The Jays may have won, but it wasn't pretty. Creighton and Providence combined for 49 fouls and 36 turnovers. Creighton also only had seven assists as a team and shot just 60.6% from the free throw line.

The key offensively for the Bluejays was Khyri Thomas who tallied 19 points. Thomas added six rebounds, three assists and two steals as well.

Creighton big man Justin Patton finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight boards. The Bluejays leading scorer in the regular season Marcus Foster finished with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Jays will head to the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament Friday to face-off against Xavier at 8 p.m. The Muskateers upset No. 18 ranked Butler in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
