OPD now investigating Thursday shooting as a homicide

The Omaha Police Department says a 15-year-old female suspect has been arrested for accessory to first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of Nomi Herrera.

The suspect has been booked into the Douglas County Youth Center.

On Saturday, the Omaha Police Department (OPD) said it is now investigating a Thursday shooting as a homicide following the victim's death.

On Thursday, OPD responded to a report of a personal injury accident at 33rd and Weber Streets where they found a vehicle off the roadway.

The driver, 19-year-old Nomi Herrera, was found in the driver's seat suffering an apparent gunshot wound.

Herrera was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Friday.

The OPD Homicide Unit is now investigating the incident.
