One of the busiest streets in Council Bluffs will likely see some changes in the next few months. The city is expected to begin phase 3 of their 5-part reconstruction project on West Broadway in April.
The city wants residents to attend a public meeting tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at Council Bluffs Community Hall, to explain their vision for phase 3 of the project. In late 2018, the city council voted to restore the original master plan medians for segments 3,4 and 5.
Mayor Matt Walsh tells us the city wants to add the medians for safety reasons. Walsh says he wants residents to know how the medians may, or may not affect them.
"I think there's a great misunderstanding on the part of the citizens, and what medians mean to them. I don't think they will be as adversely affected as they think they might be," Walsh said.
The public meeting will address design details specific to phase 3, which encompasses 28th Street to 24th Street. Attendees will be able to view maps depicting the segment 3 design, as well as proposed detours for the area.
Construction of phase 3 is expected to last from April 1 through November 30.
Walsh says the final vote on the medians for phase 3 will be on January 28, if the reconstruction goes according to schedule, the entire project should be complete by 2021.
