MILLS COUNTY, Iowa. (KMTV) — The Mills County Board of Supervisors announced Wednesday that they have set Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. as the final deadline for unincorporated residents to sign up for a buyout of their flooded property.
Residents who don't sign up by the deadline can be placed on the waitlist; however, they will not be included in the original application. The application can't be submitted until the County determines the actual properties that will be included, a spokesperson for Mills County says.
“Please act today to assure your property can be considered for buyout,” said Deputy Mills County Attorney, Tyler Loontjier. “Contact the Mills County Auditor’s Office at 712.527.3146 to place your property on the list and sign the required documents prior to the deadline.”
The application process is voluntary on the part of the homeowner and the County. Placing your name on the buyout list by the deadline assures property will be considered for buyout.
Individuals who apply can decide to decline to participate at any time throughout the process.
Contact the Mills County Auditor at 712-527-3146 to complete the sign up process. More information can be found here.
