OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Because of an increase in yard waste and garbage due to the hail storm last week and wet conditions at the landfill, recycling collection is being suspended Monday and Tuesday to prioritize waste pick up.
The suspension of collection is for recycling only, the Public Works Department says. Garbage and yard waste collection will continue and residents should set out their garbage on their typical day of collection.
Any waste materials not collected on the normal day of collection will be collected the next day.
Approximately 5 inches of rain over the last 10 days in Omaha has caused wet conditions at the landfill, leading to high vehicle turnaround times. Additional staff is working with Waste Management to assist with increased materials.
