SPRINGFIELD, (Neb.) — Next week Springfield Platteview Community Schools will dedicate a space to one of its own. On Veterans Day, the district will honor Staff Sergeant Michael Bock who was a student at the school. Bock passed away nine years ago while serving in Afghanistan.

Before his senior year, Bock decided to enlist in the Marine Corp, and two months later 9/11 happened. His wife, Tiffany Bock says she tried to talk him out of it, but Michael's selflessness and sense of duty wouldn't allow it.

On Veterans Day Springfield Platteview Community Schools will dedicate a space in the library in his honor. The area will include a bust of him as well as information on the life he lived.

"I'm not always going to be here. Zander (Bock's son) is not always going to be here. That building will probably be around a lot longer after we're gone. Someone will look at it and think of him... 100 years from now, hopefully someone will see that sign and they'll think about this person that died for our freedom," said Bock.

Michael Bock will be honored during a special Veterans Day ceremony at the high school Monday morning at 9 a.m.
