OMAHA, Ne. (KMTV) — According to several sources, the coronavirus can live on clothes, but no one can seem to agree on how long; experts say anywhere from a few minutes to over a week.

Fashion Cleaners, a local dry-cleaning business, says its process of chemicals and heat eliminates the majority of germs and viruses that live on clothing. In the cleaning and laundering process, the heat can get up to 160 degrees.

Fashion Cleaners is considered an essential business, and they remain open during this time

"Both in dry cleaning, wet cleaning and laundry, the products that we use and the heat that is used kills 99.9% of everything, and it sanitizes and takes care of everything that we are all worried about right now," said Kermit Engh.

Fashion cleaners has several stores across Omaha, and they have a 24- hour drop-off box if you don't want to come face-to-face with anyone and a drive up car service if you prefer not to leave your car.

While this is not a guarantee that the virus will be definitely removed from clothing, it does lessen the risk and more importantly give people peace of mind and relieves some of their anxieties.
