OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — On Thursday, the Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) reported 1,343 new COVID-19 cases over the past two days.

While the number may seem extra-alarming, DCHD says, "Remember, no new case numbers were released Wednesday due to the Veterans Day holiday."

Last Saturday, DCHD reported a single-day record of 640 new cases. Today's total, divided between the two days, equals out to more than 671 cases per day. DCHD did not say how many cases were recorded on each day.

28,742 cases have been recorded in the county since the pandemic began in March.
