OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — On Friday, as COVID-19 positivity rates and reported deaths continued to rise during the week, area hospitals reported only 25 adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds were available to new patients.

Between Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders and Washington Counties, about 93% of the ICU beds are currently spoken for.

When it comes to medical and surgical beds, about 88% of those are currently in use.

Also, only 11 pediatric ICU beds are currently available with an occupancy rate of 71%.

Throughout the week, medical professionals in the Omaha area have been warning of rising cases and concerns that ICU beds could hit full capacity soon, affecting not only those with COVID-19, but any other patient with a serious medical condition requiring ICU treatment.
