OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — In Council Bluffs, the vaccination effort will expand Friday.

Health officials will give out more than a thousand shots, many to a new group of people.

The Pottawattamie County Health Department plans to give out 1,100 doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Health officials say it took less than one day to register 3,300 people for an appointment Friday, next Friday and February 26th.

It's part of Iowa's phase 1B vaccination plan, which focuses on those 65 and older.

More than 30,000 Pottawattamie County residents meet the phase 1B requirements.

But as the numbers show, the demand far exceeds the demand.

All three of this month's clinics are full, but the county is hoping to get more vaccines soon.

Once it does, health officials plan to open more vaccination clinics.
