VALLEY, Neb. (KMTV) - In the aftermath of last year's floods, residents in Valley turned to their neighbors for guidance. And over the last year, the sense of community spread all across Douglas County.
A group of Valley residents are now continuing those efforts through the Douglas County Community Emergency and Natural Disaster Recovery Group.
They are connecting flood survivors to resources in person and online. They've helped rescue animals, helped rebuild homes and found ways to connect people to ways they can save money.
It's neighbors helping neighbors, as Stephanie White put it.
"They'll say, ‘Hey, did you see what the long-term recovery group posted?’ And then someone will come in the door and say my friend referred me via your Facebook page,” she said.
The recovery group is run on volunteers and donations. They have a new location in downtown Valley.
