Good deeds come in all shapes and sizes and 11-year-old Karsen Walsh is proof that there is no age limit for how old you have to be to give back.
“I was on YouTube and I saw this video where this rich person was making fun of and judging homeless people,” said Karsen Walsh.
Instead of getting angry, 11-year-old Karsen Walsh drew up a plan of action.
“I was going to make bags and come down to Omaha to give them to the homeless,” said Walsh.
On Friday Walsh and his mom made the three and a half hour drive from their hometown of O’Neill, Nebraska.
For months, Walsh collected donations and items to help fill dozens of zip lock bags. Each bag was packed with essentials. Walsh also included a special note.
“I personally made each of these bags with love, care and compassion,” said Walsh.
Along with toiletries, the fifth grader handed out blankets and gloves.
Some recipients cried, others just wanted to pray.
Karsen’s mom Kim says she was not surprised by how her son wanted to spend his day.
“He always worries about everybody else instead of himself, he is always concerned,” said Kim Walsh.
Friday was an eye opening experience for Walsh.
“It was really sad because I was just thinking about how hard it would be being out here on the streets,” said Walsh.
As tough as it was to see, just like Walsh wrote in his special note, he can’t make a difference if he doesn’t act.
"I am going to change the world, I am starting with you,” said Walsh.
On Friday night Karsen donated a few hours of his time to volunteer at the Siena Francis Home.
