It’s the time of year where it can feel like you’re dodging street craters, known as potholes, on your daily drive to work.

Numerous auto insurance agencies offer driving safety tips for avoiding potholes.  Find a collection of tips below:

  • Make sure your tires are properly inflated (Source: Allstate)
  • Avoid puddles because they could be deep potholes filled with water (Source: American Family Mutual Insurance Company)
  • Leave more space between you and the driver ahead of you. (Source: Farmers Insurance)
  • Brake before impact: If you can’t avoid a pothole, if possible brake to slow before impact (don’t skid), but be off the brakes long enough for the wheels to be moving. There’s less damage when a tire is rolling than during aggressive braking when the load on suspension, wheels and tires is greater, potentially causing more damage on impact with a pothole.
