Memorial Day weekend will kick off the unofficial start to summer with many planning to celebrate.
AAA Nebraska knows two things: people will drink this holiday weekend and travel.
However, travel experts do not want drivers to mix the two.
On Wednesday, the auto club group announced it will offer “Tow to Go” to reduce impaired driving for this weekend only in Lincoln and Omaha, beginning at 6 a.m. Friday until Tuesday.
The goal is to makes sure you and your car get home safely, says Mark Grieb, regional president of AAA and The Auto Club Group.
However, he says this service does have restrictions.
"We'll come pick up the car,” Grieb says. “We'll take up to two passengers drive them to a safe location – drive the car home within 10 miles. That's part of the program."
The auto club group is offering this service to its members and non-members.
According to Grieb, an important thing to note: if AAA tows your car to a safe location that is not your home, then it is your responsibility to retrieve it the following day.
