Rep. Don Bacon, Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District Representative, and his Democratic challenger Kara Eastman, issued statements today reacting to Wednesday's ICE arrests in O'Neil, Neb.
From Rep. Bacon:
"Yesterday’s ICE raid confirms we need to fix our immigration system. The allegations by ICE that these employers are taking advantage of undocumented workers is a serious charge. If true, these actions are labor trafficking, which takes advantage of vulnerable people. I have voted twice to pass legislation that would have prevented a situation like this, but it won’t pass because too few are willing to compromise. The legislation must be balanced as well, compassionate, and respect the rule of law. It must address increased border security, guarantee protection for DACA youth, ensure employer compliance with our immigration laws, and improve our visa program."
From Kara Eastman:
Yesterday's ICE raid in O'Neill put 133 working people in custody and separated 3 children from their families. This is not the way forward. These workers deserve a path to citizenship, and exploitative employers deserve to be held accountable. https://t.co/WqznNu7GCb
