Bar cautioned about incidents

State regulators have some questions for the owner of an Omaha bar after a stabbing and a shooting outside their establishment.  They say they’ve already made major changes.

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission met with the owner of flashbacks at a mandatory meeting called by the Attorney General's Office.

There were two violent incidents that happened in their parking lot near 84th & Center St.  In December 2015, one person was stabbed and later that month three people were shot.  All of them have been release from the hospital.

The LCC says the bar and dance club wasn't cited because the incidents happened outside of their building, but wanted to discuss ways from keeping from being a citable offense.

"There's nothing in the report that showed the licensee did anything wrong but when you get that kind of report the A.G. gets concerned so she called it in front of the commission.  And so the big issue that we had is how is your security trained what is your security trained?  Can you try to stop the incidents from happening in the future?" said Hobie Rupe, Executive Director of the NE Liquor Control Commission.

Eric Orbin, the owner of Flashbacks, says they've made major changes since then to get a different clientele.

“We had a bad element coming through here with the type of music we were playing.  We've gone back to the old flashbacks from like 15 years ago so we're playing 80s, 90s, retro type music, and some of today's all dance music though and the whole clientele has pretty much changed we've had zero problems since then," Orbin explained.

Orbin and the LCC discussed what type of security measures are in place including cameras throughout the building, and trained security.  Both want to work to together to stop any future issues.

Rupe says they have about 10-15 mandatory meetings a year with bar owners from across Nebraska.

If problems continue bars can be cited under the “Disturbance Rule” and they could have their license suspended, canceled, or revoked.
