OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) -- — You could say it's going to "suck” if you're not paying for your parking meters in Downtown Omaha.

Starting in July, Park Omaha will start putting Barnacle parking devices on vehicles of drivers who don't plug the meters; specifically, if they have 3 or more outstanding tickets.

It suctions to your window, and you'll have to go online or call to pay your tickets. Then you plug in a number, the device releases, and you return it to Park Omaha.

The city says it will cost violators about half the price of what a tow costs.

"Right now, as the current ordinance stands we basically boot the vehicle and tow it away. This allows a person to come out take care of business and move on with their day versus having their car towed and they have to go out to an impound lot then they have additional fees out there as well,” said Ken Smith, Omaha Parking & Mobility Manager.

Also coming soon, if you pay your parking ticket within 48 hours it will cost $10 instead of $16.
