A grand jury is tacking on another charge to one of the former Omaha police officers involved in the in-custody death of 29-year-old Zachary Bearheels.
Our partners at the Omaha World-Herald are reporting tonight that Scotty Payne now faces a charge of use of a weapon, in addition to felony assault. Prosecutors accuse Payne of using a stun gun on Bearheels a dozen times.
Former officer Ryan McClarty faces misdemeanor assault, for repeatedly punching him during the arrest in June.
An autopsy showed Bearheels died of excited delirium.
