Bellevue Police officials say the intersection of 15th and Cornhusker  was closed in all directions after suspicious item was found on Tuesday afternoon.

BPD officials said at around 2:55 p.m., an officer was flagged down by a citizen reporting a suspicious item lying on the median at the intersection of 15th Street and Cornhusker Road.

Officials say the item was shaped like a pipe and appeared to be wrapped in some type of tape.

As a precautionary measure, BPD  secured the area until the item could be identified and determined to be safe. Bellevue Officers closed the immediate area to traffic flow for approximately two hours.

Nebraska State Patrol assisted Bellevue Officers in controlling the traffic due to the road closure.

Omaha Police Bomb Squad were called to assist in identifying the item and were able to determine the item was not an active explosive.

Bellevue Police officials say they will continue to investigate the incident in effort to identify the person(s) responsible.
