OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Officials with CHI Health provided an update on capacity, staffing and more within the health system as coronavirus cases surge.

CHI Health CEO, Dr. Cliff Robertson and CHI Health St. Francis president, Ed Hannon answered questions; Hannon focused on central Nebraska COVID-19 updates.

Robertson and Hannon said their hospitals are continuing to see an increase in the number of hospitalizations but are managing to balance the number of patients with the transfer system being used by healthcare providers in Nebraska. Using the system, Hannon said they have managed to transfer out COVID-19 patients who may require other levels of care such as transplants.

In regards to staff morale, Robertson said staff have had less anxiety when it comes to PPE and ventilators but that he has seen more in regards to the number of patients coming in.

Robertson and Hannon both asked that people continue to do what they can to help mitigate the spread of the virus by masking up, avoiding confined spaces, avoiding crowds and practicing good hand hygiene.

"Panicking isn't going to change things and isn't going to help," Robertson said.
