OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Clarkson College is celebrating the opening of a new space to expand education and meet the demand of a larger enrollment this spring.

A ribbon-cutting was held for the Clarkson College Commons and Education Center on Wednesday.

The building used to house a family medical practice. Officials say the expansion will help better serve students furthering their education in areas including nursing and other healthcare-related occupations.

"It's critical for us to open up," said Clarkson College President James Hauschildt. "At this time, we're seeing increases in enrollment because of COVID and not in spite of it. The demand for healthcare has grown recently with the changing demographic of the workforce with an interest in healthcare, the opportunities, stability, industry it provides."

Officials say planning for the renovation started about 10 years ago.
