Police say two men died when a cement truck fell on top of the car they were riding in at South 120th Street and Giles Road in La Vista on Wednesday afternoon.
According to La Vista Police Chief Bob Lausten, the victims are Michael Dearden and Philip Hertel, both 23-years-old. The chief said in a tweet, "the cause of why the concrete truck rolled is under investigation by the Crash Team. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families."
Chief Bob Lausten said the truck was full when it tipped over while making a right turn and crushed the vehicle, killing the two people in the front seat.
Lausten says the department has identified the owner of the vehicle and the license plate number, but they are not releasing that information at this time.
The driver of the concrete truck, Austin Holloway of Fremont, suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The truck could be seen tipped on its side, on top of the car around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. The truck was finally upright at around 2 p.m.
Emergency vehicles have blocked off South 120th Street and code enforecement is on the scene, reviewing evidence.
