Democratic Congressman Brad Ashford spent a lot of time with President Obama during his trip to Omaha.

Ashford told KMTV at Baxter Arena that Wednesday was the high point of his long political career.

From being live at 6 a.m. with KMTV for a live interview to having an after party at Clancy's Pub, it was an exciting and busy day for the man who represents Omaha in Congress.

"It's just a thrill,  I'm proud of our city," said Ashford.

Congressman Ashford flew on Air Force One with the president Wednesday morning. He says it was quite a surreal experience, "It works like clockwork, it;'s very impressive, the president was very accessible."

As they went inside the raucous Baxter Arena, Rep. Ashford said he warned the president how Omahans like to welcome the president, "We are caring enthusiastic people here."

This was also an opportunity for President Obama to meet in-person the people the Kerrie Orozco Act would help-a bill Rep. Ashford has been championing.

"It helps our efforts to underline our importance of the legislation and really send the message to our first responders," said Ashford.

At the end of the day, Ashford said he's proud of how well Omaha represented itself, "Great to be in Omaha, great to be a Nebraskan."
