OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Shen Yun, a performing arts company based out of New York that showcases traditional Chinese dance and culture, is bringing their show to Omaha.
They'll perform at the Orpheum Theater both Tuesday and Wednesday and the company wants to dispel any rumors that their performers or crew have the coronavirus.
Shen Yun has long been barred from China due to conflicting beliefs between Shen Yun's interpretation of history and China's communist regimes.
Organizers now believe that China is trying to smear their image and spread false information about the coronavirus, saying the performers and crew have the coronavirus or have traveled to infected countries.
“This is something that the Chinese Communist Party has done over and over again to essentially try to stop the show and shut down performances,” said Shen Yun volunteer Weldon Gilcrease.
It has not been proven that it is in fact China that has spread the rumors.
However, it is important to note that none of the dancers from all seven companies have the coronavirus, nor do the staff or crew.
Most haven't been back to China in years due to being blacklisted.
