OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident that left one dead, and injured three others on Friday at Sorenson Pkwy just west of Wenninghoff Rd.
Officials said around 10:45 p.m. a white 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was westbound on Sorenson Parkway when it struck a blue 2007 Chevrolet Aveo from behind. The Aveo was occupied by three people. Upon arrival, officials said the front seat passenger in the Aveo died at the scene. The driver and a back seat passenger, an adult and a child, were transported to Nebraska Medicine with serious injuries. It is not believed they are life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Malibu was also transported to the Nebraska Medicine for treatment of minor injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
A witness tells officials the driver of the Malibu was driving at a high-rate of speed, with his headlights out. Officials said the driver may have also been involved in a hit-and-run accident just east of the fatal accident, at 72nd and Sorenson Pkwy, and may have been fleeing the accident.
Speed and alcohol are considered factors in this investigation.
