OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration collected nearly 883,000 pounds of unwanted, unused, and expired prescription medications and vaping cartridges at the 18th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event on October 26th.

The Omaha division of the DEA collected over 22,000 pounds collected from sites in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Nebraska residents discarded 4,390 pounds of medications and vaping cartridges at the available locations for drug take back day.

This October was the first time the DEA was accepting vaping devices and cartridges for the first time in Take Back Day history. With hundreds of confirmed lung injuries and dozens of deaths attributed to vaping use, the DEA is working diligently to spread the word about the potential dangers of vaping.
