3 News Now is learning new details from the developer about what could be in store for CrossRoads Mall.

Developer Rod Yates says his team is working on a proposal for a 2 million square-foot, mixed-use space with retail and office options, along with 1500 to 2000 housing units. He says if everything goes through the city’s planning processes, they hope to open Phase One of the project by Spring 2019.

He says the plans are on track to be submitted to the city by July.

Businesses in the area say they’re cautiously optimistic.

"Anything that's worthwhile is worth waiting for,” said Michael Pirroccello of West Lanes Bowling. “And I think that as soon as we get some new neighbors and a new flow of people in, it'll just be another shot of energy for all the business around here. So we're excited to get it going."

A formal announcement of the project is expected later this summer. Yates estimates the total timeline for the project would be 5 to 10 years.
