Director of Douglas County Corrections speaks on death of inmate

Police continue to investigate the death of a Douglas County inmate Tuesday evening.

Jail officials say 61-year-old Steven Claycamp was trying to leave a secure area when a guard stopped him and officials say Claycamp attacked him.

Other staff members had to restrain and sedate him, then he lost consciousness.

Paramedics rushed Claycamp to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Director of Douglas County Corrections talked with media this morning.

"With this situation, we are looking at all the policies and procedures and we're looking at intake. We're trying to determine how we best can identify risks when individuals come into the facility and how best we can identify needs of individuals who come into the facilities so we can best administer to the individuals when they do arrive."

Claycamp was just in jail court Tuesday.

He told the judge he was on medication for seizures.

Claycamp was arrested last Sunday on drug charges.
