OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — On Thursday, the Douglas County Board’s Health and Human Services Committee met to discuss new efforts to help those impacted by COVID-19 before the year is over.

The county received $4 million in CARES Act money for utility assistance and $10 million in rental assistance but so far, has given out just over half of that money.

Starting Tuesday, the county will raise the cap on utility assistance from $750 a month to $1200 a month in order to meet the needs of families and spend the funds before 2021.

The county also announced it will accept self-attestation on portions of rental or utility assistance applications which should speed up the application process and make it easier for people to apply. The county says this is crucial in planning for 2021 when federal money hasn’t yet been secured for the county.
