Margarito Nava-Luna was killed Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Northwest Omaha by 27-year-old Edwin Elvir-Palma.
Investigators believe Elvir-Palma struck and killed 35-year-old Nava-Luna who was walking in the street near 104th and Manderson early Saturday morning. Douglas County deputies say Elvir-Palma had a blood alcohol level of .239. Investigators say Elvir-Palma and Nava-Luna were together at Bogies Bar & Grill near Old Maple and Bedford before Nava-Luna was hit and killed.
Veronica Reyes, Nava-Luna's wife says he was a great husband and a loving father to his four children. She says he loved being outdoors and frequently took the family out for adventurous activities on sunny days, like walks in the park, trips to the lake and strolls through downtown.
Reyes says he was an enthused Barcelona soccer fan and screamed at the television intensely during soccer matches.
She says Nava-Luna lived for his kids and encouraged them to excel in school and become lawyers or doctors.
While mourning her husband's loss, the family must now come up with the funds to cover funeral costs. Reyes says it's an expense they don't have the money for, and are having to rely heavily on community support.
