Films Streams plans to expand to a second location after restoring the Dundee Theater.
Film Streams says the Dundee Theater was purchased by the Sherwood Foundation with the intention of it being donated to the organization, allowing them the opportunity to save it.
The theater was closed in May 2013 for renovations, but the owners recently decided to sell it. In a statement Wednesday, Film Streams says it expects to reopen the theater in 2018.
“Saving the Dundee will require a multimillion dollar restoration and renovation, including critical improvements to the building itself,” they said.
The nonprofit says it will give Omaha access to more independent programming like first-run American independents, foreign films, documentaries, classics and special engagements.
