OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — An Omaha firefighter was injured after battling a vehicle fire Wednesday night.

Debris fell and hit the fireman in the head at an automotive shop near 149th and Grover. The blaze was in a van, located next to the automotive shop, but originated from the interior of the shop. The fire was contained quickly and the firefighter was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

"We're a close-knit family. There's 600-some of us, but most of us know each other personally and it's a struggle when we see one of our fellow firefighters go down," said Sean Dean, Battalion Chief of the Omaha Fire Department.

Firefighters say there were several cars inside the business, but the fire mostly caused only smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
