OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Last week, Omaha's City Council voted to ban plastic bags at grocery stores and big box stores in the area. As promised, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert was quick to veto the new ordinance. Starting Saturday, a local grocery store said they will no longer offer plastic bags ahead of a council discussion to consider overturning Stothert's veto.

Wohlner's Grocery said they are, "Eliminating plastic grocery bags and joining the local, national and global push to put the environment first."

They are encouraging customers to bring reusable bags or purchase them for $1. Paper bags are also an option.

For those who use reusable bags, Wohlner's said they will give a 5% off "regular-priced purchase every time you use a reusable bag!"
