A planned project in downtown Omaha will not move forward. HDR has announced it will build it's global headquarters elsewhere...
HDR CEO George Little says due to increasing projects costs and the impact of a loss of parking facilities nearby, the engineering firm has canceled its scheduled move to downtown Omaha. The company is now looking for a different site in the Omaha metro. Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert issued a statement calling this "disappointing and regrettable" that HDR and Omaha Performing Arts could not reach an agreement to finalize the sale of the property at 11th and Dodge.
OPA recently called off it's purchase of three buildings near the Holland Center, including the Specht Building. Preservationists were very worried that demolition crews would knock down the buildings to make way for parking lots for HDR workers. Once that failed, Omaha Performing Arts and HDR still had to close on the sale of the property so that the company could break ground this summer.
