According to statistics released by the Nebraska Humane Society, Omaha has 73 dogs classified as potentially dangerous and 58 pet owners who are classified as reckless.
A potentially dangerous a dog is one that has bitten someone or generally endangers the public. A reckless owner is not allowed to own an animal for four years.
In total, there have been 15 reckless owner citations in the first six months of the 2017, but three of them were successfully appealed and two are still pending.
As for the dogs, there have been 64 citations for potentially dangerous dogs. Eleven of those citations were successfully appealed, four are still pending and eight have been declined.
