LINCOLN, Neb. — Memorial Stadium was busy Sunday evening, this time not for a game, but for a good cause.
"Today we're celebrating the tenth anniversary of Husker Heroes, it's an event between the University of Nebraska Athletics Department and multiple non-profits that serve people with special needs," the president of Autism Family Network Cathy Martinez said.
The Husker Heroes Outreach Event was a chance for kids old and young to play games and interact with their favorite Husker athletes.
"For kids with special needs, to get a chance to get down here and spend time with their heroes that they see on TV all the time," one parents at the event said.
For the athletes it's a rewarding experience as well.
"I think it's wonderful for the athletes to have this experience too because it shows them how fortunate they are," Martinez said.
