OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Twenty-five years ago in Humbolt, NE, Brandon Teena was murdered after some of his friends learned he was transgender. It's the story that inspired the movie Boys Don't Cry.

Wednesday is a day to remember people like Brandon who were killed because of the gender they identify with.

Morning anchor Courtney Johns talked with Miss Nebraska All-American Goddess to talk about this day and some of the challenges the transgender community faces.
