Iowa Governor Terry Branstad officially resigns

He will become the ambassador to China

DES MOINES, Iowa (KMTV) - Across the river in Iowa, Governor Terry Branstad has given his resignation in order to become the U.S. Ambassador to China. 

A ceremony was held at the Governor's formal office at the Iowa State Capitol Wednesday morning. The 70-year-old, who was serving his sixth non-consecutive term, was the nation's longest serving governor. 

Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds was sworn in as governor and will be the first woman to hold the position in Iowa.
