For those who took the oath to "protect and serve", last night's tragedy hits very close to home.
The deadly ambush was on the minds of every officer when they started their patrols Friday.
While relations between police officers and the community may be strained in other cities.
La Vista police officer TJ Jacik said police and the community in the Omaha metro have a healthy relationship.
Jacik said his fellow officers care about the community.. And it was hard to watch last night's tragic events.
"It was hard for us not to be able to be there for those officers in terms of being with them in Dallas," he said.
"Being in the hospital with their families, showing them support, I know every officer on this force would have been there last night if they could."
Jacik used the word anger when he describes how he felt, watching the national coverage unfold on live TV.
"The whole law enforcement community right now is in deep sorrow for those Dallas Officers."
