“If he is here, they should be able to catch him,” said a concerned North Omaha resident.
As police continue to search Northeast Omaha for escaped inmate Timothy Clausen, rumors amongst neighbors have started to fly about his whereabouts.
One woman who was too scared to show her face on camera says she heard Clausen was hiding out two homes down from her home near 31st and Fowler.
“To not know if someone who is potentially that dangerous might be here, well that just makes me sick,” said a concerned resident.
Omaha Police say they believe Clausen is still in Northeast Omaha. He was last spotted near 18th and Grace around 10 p.m. Sunday night.
“Watch out for him. Stay in and keep your kids in,” said Lacellia Bolton who lives near 18th and Grace.
Residents in the area say it’s upsetting to know a man convicted of sexual assault and other violent crimes was even able to escape in the first place.
“It’s a joke,” said Tyrone Bolton.
But they say what's even more upsetting is the fact someone may be helping him hideout.
“Tell on him, get him out of your house, because you might be in danger too,” said Lacellia Bolton.
“I don’t figure it’s snitching, it’s protecting society,” said Tyrone Bolton.
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer says his department will catch Clausen. Both local and state officials are out on the city streets looking for him.
“We had a couple of State Patrol Officers come into the restaurant earlier today,” said Tyrone Bolton who works at a cafe near 18th and Grace.
Tyrone Bolton says he appreciates the fact law enforcement agencies are scouring his neighborhood, but won’t be content until Clausen is back behind bars.
Police ask anyone with information about Clausen’s whereabouts to please call 911. They advise not to approach him, he is considered dangerous.
