OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – Wednesday was a first for a group of little graduates. Due to the pandemic, the Learning Community South Preschool class had to hold off on graduation to kindergarten. That is, until Wednesday.

Twenty-one families participated in the first-ever happy bus graduation. The bus was loaded with diplomas, grad caps and teachers.

It pulled up to each graduate's house and teachers got out to dance and sing in the streets with their little grads and families in front of their homes.

“I'm a little overwhelmed,” said Learning Community CEO Bradley Ekwerekwu. “They're excited, peeking around cars as we drive up and you can see the smiles through their eyes, as many have masks on. Jubilation and excitement as they can see their teachers and program manages again. It's been incredible.”There are more than a thousand families in the program from Douglas and Sarpy counties.

The graduates have been in small classes preparing for kindergarten while their parents are learning English and workforce skills.
