Man arrested after police chase through Omaha

Chase through Omaha Wednesday morning took Omaha police through several parts of town after they received a carjacking call.

The chase started at 24th and Ames and the man lead police all the way to south Omaha.

A negotiator was also utilized to speak with the suspect by cell phone after he made claims that we was suicidal and displayed a gun

OPD officials say the suspect dropped a gun out of the window near 36th and l.

 Officers put stop sticks in the suspect's path and he finally came to a stop almost an hour into the chase near 13th and I-80

The truck's tires were shredded, and police took the suspect into custody.

Police had to block of the street to start their investigation.

After sitting in the police cruiser for about an hour, the suspect needed medical attention and was taken away in an ambulance.

Officer Michael Pecha said the slow-speed chase ended with no serious injuries and police worked to prevent innocent bystanders from getting hurt during the chase.

The suspect was later identified as 43-year old Jose L. Iglesias

OPD officials say Iglesias was taken to Nebraska Medicine as a precaution and was released.

Iglesias was later booked at the Douglas County Corrections for one count Robbery, one count Use of a Weapon to commit a Felony and two counts of Felony Terrorist Threats.
