Four Bellevue police officers are on paid administrative leave after a man died in custody, says Laurie Synowski, a spokesperson for Bellevue Police.
According to police, officers responded to a disturbance call around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of west 22nd Avenue. When they found the suspect, the man became non-compliant as officers attempted to take him into custody.
An altercation occurred during the arrest and the man became non-responsive, Synowski says.
No officers were hurt, however a woman may have suffered minor injuries, police say.
Officers tried to resuscitate the man as Bellevue Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene to take him to Bellevue Medical Center.
Authorities say the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
As per department policy and protocol, the officers are on paid administrative leave as they investigate the cause of death.
At this time we are not releasing the name of the suspect involved in this incident as they attempt to notify next to kin, Synowski says.
The names of the officers have not been released due to the on-going investigation.
