Man killed pumping gas stuns neighbors

Posted

The Bucky's gas station on 30th and Dodge became a murder scene this weekend.

"I was kind of freaked out because I came here and saw the yellow tape," said Thomas Quinn.

Omaha police say 27 year old Andrew Peek was pumping gas when he was shot and killed early Sunday morning.

"No, I am not surprised at all."

People who frequent the area say the problems start at night.

"I kind of make it a rule not to come in this area after 7pm," said Quinn.

"You just get a shady crowd, that's pretty much the only way to put it," said Quinn.

Thomas Quinn says he comes to this gas station nearly everyday.

"I'm a little sketchy now, but I will still come," said Quinn.

Another man was shot and wounded the same morning just a few hours before, but some say one bad weekend doesn't make this neighborhood unsafe.

"I am out and about all the time, I walk to work, I walk to the grocery store, I got to activities in the park," said Brianna Pinquosh.

With Midtown Crossing just on the other side, neighbors say it's a shame this side is so underdeveloped.

"You got nice buildings, like one area will be nice, then another is kind of ghetto."

Bucky's customers say they'll stay on alert and avoid being out at night.

"I wouldn't walk around here at night on foot, absolutely not."
