Upfront at 4 anchor Jennifer Griswold introduces us to KMTV's newest addition to the Severe Weather Alert Team, Jennifer Zeppelin, and her family.
“I can thank my husband for this because of his job at Creighton University, that's why we're in Nebraska,” said Zeppelin said.
Jennifer and her husband, Jim, and their son, Jordan, started their move to Omaha about a year ago.
“The people have been so welcoming and having a child helps, too, because that quickly allows you to be able to immerse yourself in the community, gotten to meet the families,” she explained.
She's excited to be back on air and forecasting. Her husband doesn't just support her passion for weather, as a former TV meteorologist, he shares it.
“We both were doing weather for the competing TV stations, and we went on a blind date to ‘Phantom of the Opera.’ After that, we didn’t date anyone else. Almost 20 years of marriage and we're still together,” she recalled.
“I'll send her a note if she's been sleeping in and say, ‘Look at the new model runs. They're looking a little dicey,’” Jim said.
The family stays busy with other, non-weather hobbies. Jennifer is a proud soccer mom. Her son, Jordan, will be 14 years old later this month. He is an eighth grader at Mary Our Queen.
The family also loves to travel. They recently took a trip to Australia.
Now, they’re exploring their new home. Jennifer and Jim are part of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce Executive Institute for new residents.
“Every month, we get a different evening session about Omaha. So we've learned about police. We're going to be going out to Offutt. So we're learning all about the community and really feel like we're getting a crash course, which is nice,” Jim explained.
“The other thing we've loved is the food. Everybody says that about Omaha. It is a foodie town and we love to eat. I'm a good Italian, part Italian, part German,” Jennifer said.
The family also includes a four-legged member – a Yorkshire terrier.
“Teddy Bear likes to be in the middle of everything, spend a lot of time with the bear, walks around the neighborhood,” she said. “We adopted him when he was 5 months old, and he's brought so much joy. He makes us laugh.”
Jennifer joins the Severe Weather Alert Team with Jim Flowers, Ryan McPike, John Walsh and Matt Monroe.
You’ll see her with Jennifer Griswold on KMTV’s Upfront at 4.
