A Gretna family welcomes the first baby born in the new year in Omaha.

Lukas Edward Glennie was born at 12:20am Friday at Methodist Women's Hospital.  He weighs 7 pounds 11 ounces and measures at 20 1/2 inches long.

His parents, Laura and Nikolas Glennie of Gretna, say they hoped he would be born before the new year so they could get a tax deduction but are happy either way.

"We were waiting so patiently and we knew God had a plan but we didn't know it was to surprise us with a baby on the first of January," said Laura.

A total of 18 babies were born on New Year's Eve.  Methodist set a record in 2015 of having 5,413 births.
